Printmaker, Hoopoe Prints, Port William.
Tell us a bit about what you do and why you love it?
I am a printmaker, producing woodcuts, linocuts, etchings, collagraphs and other types of hand made prints of birds and landscape from my studio in Port William.  I love the control I have over my working life and I enjoying producing images of things which inspire me.

Every day is different!

What makes Dumfries & Galloway special to you?
Dumfries and Galloway is special to me because it is the place where I became a full time artist and, every day, the natural beauty of the place and its wildlife provides me with inspiration.
Are you involved in other arts and cultural activities?
I have a serious hobby interest in textiles and I am a member of the Wigtownshire Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers.
What projects are you involved in right now?
I’m gathering ideas and material for new bird prints which I’ll be pulling together in the Autumn.  I’ve recently been looking at Divers in the North West Highlands and I’m looking forward to translating what I saw into some new prints.
Hopes, ambitions or plans for the future?
I’m starting to review my workshop provision for next year with a view to improving the schedule and the workshops themselves.  In the Autumn I’ll have my fourth big solo exhibition at the Scottish Ornithologists’ Club in Aberlady so I’ll be continuing to produce new work for that as well as taking part in the regular round of summer exhibitions.  I’m also planning a trip to Shetland which should provide plenty of inspiration!
Have you always been in this role – or have you done anything else?
Prior to coming here in 2006, I was a full time civil servant in Cheltenham, working for the Countryside Agency.  I started printmaking while I was still working in 1991.
Tell us something not everyone knows about you:
I’m a Trustee of the Galloway National Park Association which is working to try to achieve National Park status for our beautiful region.
