Roger A Lever, Lever Photography, Dalbeattie
Tell us a wee bit about you?
I am a Professional Photographer working in Wedding, Wildlife, Portrait and Landscape photography. I still work part time as a Vet but spend most of my time now following my passion for photography.
What makes Dumfries & Galloway special to you?
In 1980 I started my own Veterinary practice in Dalbeattie and in 1989 along came 2 colleagues and started the Bard Veterinary Group (now Bard Vets Ltd) in Dumfries. When I reached 60 I decided to work part-time as a vet and started my own business as a photographer here in Dumfries & Galloway. I love this area, that’s why I came here in the first place.
Are you involved in other arts and cultural activities?
I am a Founder member of Galloway Photo Collective. I am a member of Spring Fling and open my studio at the end of May each year.
What projects are you involved in right now?
Currently I am developing an installation for Spring Fling which is about gannets. I photographed and filmed these amazing birds on Bass Rock last year. This installation is a completely different way of presenting my photography and I am hoping it will please everyone who sees it. I am also working on an ongoing project ‘1000 Faces Scotland’ which involves taking portraits of and filming people talking about themselves, this is very ambitious and will continue. I have several wedding commitments this year.
Hopes, ambitions or plans for 2015?
I am hoping to make a success of my Spring Fling event. I will do a few weddings. I will visit Bass Rock again and I am making plans to visit St Kilda with 2 of my colleagues in The Galloway Photographic Collective. I will continue photographing and filming people both in Dumfries & Galloway and other parts of Scotland.
Anything else you’d like to tell us?
I played cricket and captained the Dumfries Cricket Team in the 1980s. I have taken part in several Charity Challenges for Action Aid, Vet Aid and SENSE. I am profoundly deaf but I am lucky to have 2 exceptionally good hearing aids that allow me to communicate reasonably well except in noisy spaces.
