Get Involved Get Inspired: GIGI

The Get Involved Get Inspired Fund (GIGI) supports creative events, activities and opportunities for people to access in their communities. This fund is presently closed.

Creative projects could be anything from live arts events, exhibitions, artists discussions, drama, dance or theatre, to photography, film, poetry, spoken word, creative writing, storytelling and participatory arts workshops.
In 2018/19, GIGI funded 12 projects across Dumfries and Galloway, with a total of £7960 spent on a diverse range of community-based events and activities across several art-forms, including design, performance art, crafts, literature, visual arts and multi art form.
Design
LGBT Youth Scotland received £600 to run IDAHOT Street Art, a series of workshops to develop and create unique pieces of chalk art, followed by a collective chalk artwork in Dumfries town centre to celebrate International Day against Homophobia & Transphobia: IDAHOT.
Moniaive Festival Village received £650 to run a workshop in the Glencairn Memorial Institute for young people in rural areas around Moniaive to learn and apply skills in set and costume design, and collaborative performance making.
Performance Art
Fox and Hound Cubs received £750 to run Page to Stage, a series of theatre workshops, including tech, writing and acting, culminating in a community performances, with young people leading the activities.
Glenkens Community and Arts Trust received £750 to run a Confluence Norwegian Storytelling and Photography Residency, delivering workshops with local young people in Dalry, New Galloway and Dumfries and culminating in performances at the CatStrand and The Stove.
Guild of Players received £713 to run Introduction to Greek Theatre and Mask Work, eight workshops for young people with additional support needs and learning disabilities, developing their theatre knowledge whilst building confidence.
Crafts
The Guild CIC received £750 for a Big Burns Supper Festival Makers Market showcasing the best local designers, makers, artists and food producers.
A The Airts received £500 for the first Sanquhar Arts Festival, aimed at the community and tourists, showcasing the talent of people in Upper Nithsdale.
Blueprint 100 received £591 for 'Dumfries in Lino', encouraging participation in lino printing of images of buildings around Dumfries.
Literature
Lockerbie Writers' Group received £406 to run a Mindful Creative Writing Workshop.
Visual Arts
Arts Inc received £750 for 'Doon the Toon', the design of a streetscape incorporating full sized sets for a grocers, a bakers, a bistro and a post office., along with 3 days of structured, person-centred creative workshops.
Multi Art Form
Wide Open received £750 for 'Journey Towards Peace', three cultural collaborative events linked with the 30th Anniversary of the Lockerbie tragedy.
Allanton Peace Sanctuary received £750 for the 21st World Peace Festival. Attracting 500 people annually, the festival is a highlight of the Nithsdale calendar. Attendees share music, food, well-being activities and visit stalls run by local charities and artists.
